A Day

Your alarm goes off, you hit the snooze and sleep for another 10 minutes.
> He stays up for days on end.

You take a warm shower to help you wake up.
> He goes days or weeks without running water.

You complain of a "headache", and call in sick.
> He gets shot at, as others are hit, and keeps moving forward.

You put on your anti war/don't support the troops shirt, and go meetup with your friends.
> He still fights for your right to wear that shirt.

You make sure you're cell phone is in your pocket.
> He clutches the cross hanging on his chain next to his dog tags.

You talk trash on your "buddies" that aren't with you.
> He knows he may not see some of his buddies again.

You walk down the beach, staring at all the pretty girls.
> He walks the streets, searching for insurgents and terrorists.

You complain about how hot it is.
> He wears his heavy gear, not daring to take off his helmet to wipe his brow. And it's 112 degrees in his tent, IF the air conditioner is working!

You go out to lunch, and complain because the restaurant got your order wrong.
> He does not get to eat today.

Your maid makes your bed and washes your clothes.
> He wears the same things for days, but makes sure his weapons are clean.

You go to the mall and get your hair redone.
> He doesn't have time to brush his teeth today.

You are angry because your class ran 5 minutes over.
> He is told he will be held an extra 2 months.

You call your girlfriend and set a date for that night.
> He waits for the mail to see if there is a letter from home.

You hug and kiss your girlfriend, like you do everyday.
> He holds his letter close and smells his love's perfume.

You roll your eyes as a baby cries.
> He gets a letter with pictures of his new child, and wonders if they'll ever meet.

You criticize your government, and say that war never solves anything.
> He sees the innocent tortured and killed by their own government and remembers why he is fighting.

You hear the jokes about the war, and make fun of the men like him.
> He hears the gun fire and bombs.

You see only what the media wants you to see.
> He sees the bodies lying around him, and he sees the locals who are grateful beyond words that he is working to give them freedom.

You are asked to go to the store by your parents. You don't.
> He does what he is told.

You stay at home and watch TV.
> He takes whatever time he is given to call and write home, sleep, and eat.

You crawl into your bed, with down pillows, and try to get comfortable.
> He crawls under a tank for shade and a 5 minute nap, only to be woken by gun fire.

You sit there and judge him, saying the world is a worse place because of men like him.
> If only there were more men/women like him.

If you support your troops, repost this.

ILOCANOS: The Frugal Gourmets

I came across this article when I was trying to find out the history of buos.

MANILA, July 2, 2004 (STAR)
TURO-TURO
By Claude Tayag

The Ilocanos’ most popular contributions to Philippine cuisine are undoubtedly pakbet (pronounced as pak-butt); bagnet (bag-nutt) and longganisa, given its strong garlicky flavor, it being a major agricultural product of the Ilocos.

Being known to be frugal and tight-fisted as they are, nothing goes to waste in an Ilocano kitchen. They make use of everything that can be eaten, perhaps due to the harsh climate and limited resources. They nevertheless are squeamish about getting only the freshest ingredients.

University Cafe

One thing I missed about working in Riverside was working near my FRIENDS and our LUNCH times. One frequently visited establishment was University Cafe aka UC. Shortly after I left Riverside, the place closed down (unknown reasons to me). A few weeks ago I had learned that they just relocated to a better area. They closed down for a year to build this new place. I was excited to go try it again! Best part... same menu. Some of my favorites include:

  • Jalapeño or Regular House Special Chicken
  • BBQ Pork Tofu
  • Beef Stew Noodle
  • Salty Fish and Chicken Fried Rice

And plus you get a drink w/ your meal. (^_^) I like to get Black Tea. Their new place is bigger and the tables are less crowded. And now there is a parking lot. Before, at their old location, parking was a hassle. [yelp]

Phil's BBQ

My cousin took me to this BBQ joint located in Point Loma near the Sports Arena. First thing I noticed was the long line out the door (so it must be good right?). You order up front like @ fast food places. So grab a menu while you are in line so you know what to order once you get up there. We ordered baby back ribs and chickless (boneless chicken chunks) and side orders of fresh cut fries, sweet backed beans, and onion rings. Everything was simply amazaing. And if you make a mess, there is a huge sink near to the exit to get cleaned up. [yelp]

Find X

Being in class all last week reminded me of my days in college. Some things never change. I still found myself dosing off once and a while during lecture and my note taking hasn't improved.

I still don't know why I got this question wrong.

Kain na tayo!

My recipe blog Kain na tayo! is a work in progress. But I think finally found a simple look and feel. It's all about the food and the recipes right? It's looks old fashioned. Like the kitchens of yesterday where my aspirations to cook began as I used to watch my Mom, Dad, Lola, and Lolo cook. The color scheme reminds me of this old dining set we had when I was a kid. I will continue to add more recipes... ENJOY!

Fire Red V

Imelda Marcos Project:
Jordan V - High Flying Design

The Air Jordan 5 featured a unique style cooked up by Tinker Hatfield. The Air Jordan 5 was inspired by the WW2 Mustang fighter plane. The most obvious element of the inspiration is the shark teeth shapes on the midsole of the shoe. The Air Jordan 5 also was the first Jordan shoe to have a clear sole. This not only added a nice look to the Air Jordan 5, but provided far better traction. The Air Jordan 5 also featured an iridescent reflective tongue and lacelocks. [Article]

What If

Imagine if he never switched hats on draft day.
Andrew D. Bernstein/NBAE/Getty Images

What if the Hornets never traded Kobe Bryant?

In the smartest move of Jerry West’s career as the Lakers’ GM, Los Angeles shipped Vlade Divac, who was entering his eighth season and averaging roughly 13 points, eight rebounds and three assists, for Charlotte’s No. 13 pick, Kobe Bryant, who was the first guard to make the leap from high school to the NBA.

The Lakers gave up a known commodity about to enter the prime stretch of his career (for most guys it’s the 7-10 season range) for a skinny kid who may or may not have had inflated stats from beating up on preppy suburban high school competition.

It ended up being one of the most lopsided trades in NBA history, right along with the Bulls getting Dennis Rodman from the Spurs for Will Purdue and having the Worm become the final piece of the puzzle for championships four through six.

L.A. wound up with three rings. Charlotte ended up moving to New Orleans because it couldn’t sell playoff tickets, then to Oklahoma City because of Hurricane Katrina and then back to New Orleans and in the meantime the Bobcats came to Charlotte. [Article]

♥ Jin

Jin was our very talented server @ Romano’s Macaroni Grill. She was very attentive to our needs and orders. Not to mention she was also so cute. I liked her bubbly voice. And she was able to write her name backwards with 2 crayons while holding a tray of bread. Now that's talent. (^_^)

Go say hi to her at the Otay Ranch MacGrill in Chula Vista.
